Kevin Irving is a highly sought after Detroit-based, professional cellist. He is a versatile musician, comfortable playing in several genres, including classical, musical theater, rock, folk, Indy and singer/songwriter. He has performed with a wide variety of nationally recognized groups including The Eagles (2022), Il Volo (2022), The Who (2022), Celtic Woman (2022/2023), Les Miserables (2023), Tell Me on a Sunday (2023), Mrs. Doubtfire (2023), Andrea Bocelli, and is currently out full time with the First National Tour of the Tony winning musical, Kimberly Akimbo.
Mr. Irving freelances not only as a performer but also as a session player, and pit player. Recent music theater credits include The Spitfire Grill, The Adams Family, Spongebob the Musical, Singin in the Rain, Les Miserables, Matilda the Musical, Elf the Musical, Cinderella, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Oklahoma, Ragtime, if/then, and Annie.
Kevin began his musical studies at age 10 and holds a BM in cello performance from DePaul University. During his college years, he studied with Brant Taylor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Other formative teachers include Bruce Uchimura and Judy Vander Weg. Mr. Irving has performed in master classes taught by Paul Katz, David Hardy, Stephen Balderston, and Walter Gray.
Mr. Irving is a proud AFM member, belonging to the local 5 chapter of Detroit.
